Dear friends, I’m sitting in a coffee shop, a little sleepy, waiting for work to start, and with a little less of my hearing intact then I had this time yesterday, and I’ve never felt better. We never do say it enough, but thank YOU. All of you wonderful people. We played our favorite set ever, and it was only possible because of all of the amazing people we had in the crowd. Opening for The Toasters has always been a dream of ours, and doing so last night was what we’ll call a massive stepping stone towards an even better SSR future. All of this wouldn’t be possible without you guys who have supported us over the years— come to shows, bought merch, talked on Facebook, and chilled with us. So once again, THANK YOU, and we hope you enjoyed some new tunes! We would also like to thank The A-Oks, because we’ve been playing with them since close to our inception. They’ve always been helpful when it comes to playing in Denver, and it has always been a pleasure playing with them. Anyways, there is a future, as much as I’d just love to live in the bubble of awesome that you guys made last night. But in that future, there is stuff, so don’t you worry! We’re working on getting some new recordings done soon—I know, right?— so we’ll finally have recordings of our new lineup and somewhat newer songs. Needless to say, it was about time. Our next show will be in Fort Collins on March 3rd at Avogadro’s number with DB and the Catastrophe, Floof and the Time Bandits, The Tramps, and Post Paradise, so we can’t wait to see some of our Northern Colorado friends there. Our Next DENVER show is March 20th at the Larimer Lounge with The Namesakes, False Colours, The Repercussions, Peaceful Peaches, and Ha Ha Hooligans. This should be an AMAZING show, so hope to see you there. It is 21+, however, so we’ll try to line up an all-ages Denver show soon as well! Once again, thank you all for everything, and we can’t wait to play more music for you in the future! -Mark Kinz

Ah, Myspace. Visit the site now, and you’ll find a sluggish, crippled, corrupted, corporate media whore. A site with its soul sold to Tila Tequila, and its user experience sold to whatever big hollywood movie is coming out. My computer is pretty decent, I like to think. It loads internet pages pretty quickly, allows me to play Warcraft III in high res seamlessly, and lets me stream Star Trek Voyager with no difficulty at all. This makes me feel pretty credible when I say that Myspace has become an internet monstrocity, bogged down by pointless apps, an overdose of ads, and a cumbersome user interface. Surely, this social network will soon collapse.
But it wasn’t always this way. In fact, it seems like only yesterday I was setting up the Myspace page for my first band, That One Band. Myspace had recently implemented its band pages, allowing for streaming music players (and downloads) straight from the site. This was obviously a nearly fatal blow against previous music super power, Pure Volume (I do miss Pure Volume…). But Myspace offered something Pure Volume could not. With an already dense social newtwork population, Myspace made it possible for bands to enter the world and find (mostly) genuine fans. Myspace undoubtedly created a spike in new bands being created (both good and bad), and played a key role in making us believe that maybe we didn’t need a major record label to have success as a band. Not only that, but it sometimes created a community, allowing bands to talk with other bands in a relaxed setting, and tell eachother about upcoming shows. I’m sure many people will hate this, but I highly doubt Colorado’s ska scene would be what it is today if Myspace hadn’t created the initial avenue. Many of us owe it our thanks. Oh, and it was actually useable at the time because they weren’t constantly trying to copy facebook, because they were the standard.
So here’s to you, Myspace, and the good times we had. Maybe one day you’ll realize just how far from them you’ve strayed.
Hi everyone!
Ska Skank Redemption is proud to announce that 2011 is the year we do good. We do hope you are prepared, as we are set to unleash an onslaught of new material onto to world, open for many national acts, tour, and (fingers crossed) release our first full-length. No, seriously, we’re taking over the world this year, one step at a time, and we want you to remember: You’re either with us, or against us. Or neutral. Those are the three only available points of view ever to exist. Anyways, we have a Tumblr now, as you can see, but also recommend you stop by our other pages:
